National Association for the Advancement of Asian Actors (NAAAA)
A terrorist organization with aims to increase the demand for asian actors through notorious acts of violence to the U.S. and at the same time, feigning hardships.
I joke, I joke. But when you think about it, asian people are invisible.
For anyone who knows me, they know I’m not big on race and ethnicity issues. People are people for the most part. But I did notice something interesting on TV: the rise of middle eastern actors, especially in the evil villain role. Watching an episode of 24–my very first episode, and still not much of a fan–they brought up some race issues. Pretty common hot-topics in the media today to the drum of “is your (stereotypical terrorist looking man) allegiance to the USA or to your home country?” kind of thing.
Let’s explore an example–the one that got me thinking, to be honest. Harold and Kumar was a popular movie among teens not too long ago. Disregarding actor skills and other circumstances, Harold has disappeared. He is our unemployed asian actor suffering from the lack of movie scripts involving popular asian conflicts–except maybe that Iwo Jima movie, but keep in mind that isn’t really current times. Kumar, on the other hand, was last seen on 24. To no surprise, he was a terrorist, terrorizing innocent white people with gun-to-noble-white-mans-wife’s-head ruthlessness.
Now consider this… Had the 9/11 terrorist attacks been conducted by asian terrorists, where would Harold and Kumar be? No doubt, Harold would be on 24, and Kumar would be searching Hollywood for some outdated Desert Storm movies.
Interesting eh?
Oh, and perhaps we should be making a charity at the same time. This would be dedicated to russian evil villains who are no doubt facing high rates of unemployment today.
