Buoy Don’t Float

A site about some of my musings, thoughts, and activities. Hopefully, it’ll help me realize how weird I am in the future.

Significance = marketability

I haven’t done anything significant in the last two years. By that, I mean I haven’t done anything resume worthy since high school. (Obviously, I’m working on my resume and lets just say I’m strongly considering putting “band” as an activity of value–which I think is, but I feel few people who matter would agree.) So, here is a list of what I consider my activites in recent years, and a rating of their marketability/actual significance in the real-life world.

5 = excellent; 1 = get a new damn hobby

1. Band
Realistically, 2. But I’m tempted to give it a 4. I mean, band takes a lot of work. For example, the time commitment, the routineness, the self-confidence, the promoting–it’s not easy work.

2. Stage managing for VSA Culture Show
This one gets a 3. Although it looks good, in the end its theater…and I’m engineering.

3. Publicity for VSA
1…people wouldn’t understand this on paper.

4. “Research” at Industry-University Cooperative Research Program
This one is interesting. I’d give it a 5, only because I can stretch it to cheat, or rather, exaggerate. At its best, it can be used as: extensive research of local biotechnology companies; making initial contact with these companies in hopes to facilitate industry-university cooperation. Something like that…but that definitely sounds more academically strong than what it really is: a cubicle job.

5. This Website, which hopefully evolves into something more than a blog
1. Because it most likely won’t turn into something more than a blog. You know I can’t do anything daily? I’ve always made it a goal to do something, anything, daily. Like play bass, do some push ups, or just post a sentence on this damned blog. Never happens. Committment is not my forte. Nor is spelling. (I forget how to spell committment…but it looks wrong.)

6. Volunteer in Asia: China TCM
5. This one is definitely the best. While I was mostly travelling, I can really exaggerate this one because honestly, my project is about Prostatitis in a Traditional Chinese Medicine perspective. For one, that doesn’t even sound interesting because it sounds way too serious. And second, who knows enough about Traditional Chiense Medicine to correct me even if I am wrong? Anyway, this resume entry will read: Project leader on a abacterial chronic prostatitis study at the Zheijang Chinese Medical University. In teams, elucidated the differences between the traditional chinese medicine methods of diagnosis and treatment with the western practice.

In the end: I DON’T LOOK GOOD ON PAPER! At least I’m not ugly in real life…which will be the coming post.
